Check Your Credit Card

Premium credit cards often include rental car insurance. Call your bank to confirm coverage for high-value vehicles in the UAE.

Read the Fine Print

Some policies exclude certain types of damage: undercarriage, roof, driving on unpaved roads. Know what voids your coverage.

Common Exclusions (What's NOT Covered)

Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Driving on unpaved or off-road surfaces
Unauthorized drivers (not on the contract)

Leaving keys in the car (theft)
Driving outside UAE without permission
Tire damage from curbs or potholes

Understanding Excess (Deductible)

The excess is the amount you're responsible for if the car is damaged. Even with full insurance, you pay the excess amount first.

Insurance FAQ

Can I reduce the excess?

Yes! Many rental companies offer excess reduction packages for an additional daily fee. This can reduce your excess from AED 20,000 to AED 5,000, for example. Worth considering for peace of mind.

What if I get a traffic fine?

Traffic fines are your responsibility. The rental company will charge fines to your card when they receive them (sometimes weeks later). Speeding fines in UAE start at AED 300 and can reach AED 3,000 for serious violations.

Is the security deposit the same as excess?

No. The security deposit is a hold on your card (released after return). The excess is what you pay if there's damage. They're often similar amounts, but serve different purposes. The deposit can also cover fines, fuel, or other charges.
